Founded 38 years ago, the Youth Ensemble of Strings (YES) is one of the extension programs of the Lincoln Public Schools instrumental music department. Students playing in the YES Orchestra can expect to be challenged musically and technically. This year’s orchestra is open to string students in grades 5–8. Students in YES are required to participate in their school’s instrumental music program. Students living in the Lincoln Public School district are welcome to audition for the orchestra.

The Junior Youth Orchestra is an all-district orchestra for students in grades 6–9 in the Lincoln Public School District. Participation is by audition. The Junior Youth Orchestra is an extension of the instrumental music program of the Lincoln Public Schools and serves to challenge and enrich the best players to become better — both as musicians and ensemble participants.

Membership is by open to students in grades 9-12 from Lincoln, Nebraska who audition for acceptance each spring. Musicians who participate in the Lincoln Youth Symphony enjoy a wide range of experiences. The orchestra rehearses for two and half hours each week and perform 3 concerts per year.
